Checking Station

The subject of the painting is a game checking station at a country store in Viginia's southwestern mountains. The use of transparent watercolor seemed to lend itself well to convey the banality of an ordinary place that was at the same time a spot both vital to those that lived about it, and a place where death was accounted too. I tried to echo that same thought with a limited palette to accent the drab structure juxaposed with the vibrant drink machine; and to give some dignity to the ordinary. The painting is on cold pressed Aches 250 lb. paper 22" x 30" and is currently in a show at "An Artist's View" Buena Vista, Va. through December 2007.
