Bubbles In An I.V....Loitering

24"x 36" acrylic on canvas. Copyright Derek Shockey 2007.... The "ERASER" series.... These are just bad and painful thoughts and memories i no longer want to carry, thoughts i want to "erase" from memory... To support this theme i relied heavily on paint removal techniques and of course the bleach (as if to bleach away the stains left by the memories) the title was ripped off from a line in "One-Armed Scissor" by "At The Drive-In"... according to a few movies i've seen (i know, what a reliable source) if an air bubble was to get into your vein via syringe (as in the movies) it could cause an aneurysm or stroke... so i guess what i picture are these tiny bubbles that are floating in an i.v. pouch, seemingly innocuous, but potentially fatal, just waiting around to cause damage.... with that in mind this piece was meant to reflect what was going on in my life at the time, so many problems (for lack of a better word) so many bubbles building up in my i.v. pouch, the possiblity of one of those getting into my bloodstream and causing serious damage (mentally) seemed to be at an all time high... i guess judging by the comments so far i did achieve making the piece seem innocuous, while it is one of my most melancholy... actually, if you look closely you can see figures screaming for help....
