My Best Friend Carter

This is a work in progress. This is a very emotional piece for me. This is my childhood best friend. His mother was my high school art teacher, she is my mentor. I started this in 2000 when he died tragically. He was like my brother. He went to pick up his custom Harley and had a crash on his first ride. It was devastating. He was an avid skydiver, skater, and an all around fun guy. Not to mention when my high school date to homecoming stood me up 2 hours before the dance, he stepped in and proudly took me to the dance. We were two peas in a pod. His mother has been battling cancer for the past few months and as of 3 days ago she is in ICU. I am trying to finish this for her. I look forward to your feedback. It is so hard to finish this one, and I may not have enough time. If you have any suggestions on parts that I have finished please let me know. I want it to be perfect for her. After all I owe her for developing my talent. Without her I would have never pursued being an artist. She is one of the most amazing artist I have ever known. I pray I finish in time to show her. Time is of the essence.

I know your heart will never heal completely, but this is a wonderful step towards it. He would be so proud and honored. Great job!

would it be possible to down-load any of the photos you're using or are these from memory? it would be easier to critique. other than that it's a wonderful tribute to 2 very special people.

Artist Reply: Shela, thank you so much for your comment. I am sorry it took so long to get back to you. I have updated "My Best Friend" and have also posted one of the three photographic images I used in the composition of the painting so you now have a referance. Please let me know what you think.

Your ambitions to memorize your friend are admirable and express a inner beauty that is rare today. The portrait and other parts of the mural convey and express your love for this man (and his family). I have not rendered a mural or a memorial, so I have no advice to give you for the technical aspect . However I do know art, and judging by the quality of your work you need no advice! I will say that I am sure that your friend is smiling in “heaven” having been bestowed such a fantastic temporal gift! I and those of us stuck on earth can feel the love that your piece emanates as well. Great work Staci.

Artist Reply: Thank you so much! I have been working on this the past few days. I hope to post a new picture soon of the finished piece. Please check back. Again thank you.
