Loneliness isn't a place, it's a feeling of physical and/or emotional isolation, of involuntary (or voluntary) detachment. There could have been 100 figures in this piazza, and each one just as lonely as this solitary one. But there's a nice sense of place to this piece, with it's unique architecture. I especially think the trees are the strangest things in this cityscape. ;)
