Mowich Lake is one of the most beautiful destinations in the park that you can reach by car. The 17 mi. dirt road off Hwy 165 is rough and dusty, but much better than the average logging road. Again, because of the elevation (4929 ft.), you can only reach this place from late June to early October. Mowich is the largest and deepest lake in Mt. Rainier Nat'l Park. The first time I saw this lake my husband and I were dating...wow, that was a long time ago. We took the kids there a few times when they were little. When our daughter and I started hiking seriously 5 years ago we realized that this is where a couple of trailheads were located. From here you can hike to Eunice Lake and Tolmie Peak, or Spray Falls and Spray Park, a large alpine meadow. Also, the Wonderland Trail, the 93 mi. hike AROUND Mt. Rainier, passes thru here. This trail is usually done in 10 days....not for me, but my daughter would do it in a heartbeat. She just needs to find someone besides me to go with.... :)
