For me, this painting was of course about the refractions of light and color, especially through the foremost optical layers in the two Coke bottles. As I painted, I enjoyed discovering the the underlying shapes and textures that I hadnt noticed in the original photograph. I have a particular fondness for that little bit of white reflection off of the glossy wood surface at the bottom of the Coke bottle on the left. I dont know why . . . I just do. I also love the richness of the red shadow and glow reflecting off of the table from the root beer bottle on the left. I like the layering in this piece and how with closer study, you can see the shapes, colors, and textures of the further bottles through the nearer ones. I suspect we havent seen the last of my fun with Coke bottles! I completed this piece in October of 2004, and Ill leave the title to your imagination.
