Tupac Portrait Commision

This piece was commsisioned by one of my clients. The piece is an enlarged hand drawn version of a popular photo from a Tupac tribute book. This client is a very big fan of Tupac's music and philosophy - and wanted that captured in this commisioned work. I was given free reign to choose the photo that I would use. I chose this one because it seemed the most difficult photo to accurately reproduce. I also loved the great contrast bewteen the light and dark areas of the piece. I found this to be very indicative of Tupac's personality which often teetered between peace loving visionary and ruthless bad-boy. This job was completed in two weeks total, of which one week was used actually drawing this piece. To enlarge this piece I used a porportional caculator and the grid method. This was done entirely in pencil. To date, this is my favorite commisioned work I have completed. It was my greatest challenge of my skills, and therefore the payoff was staggering. Sometimes it is hard to let go of a piece once you complete it. About the only thing I dislike about being a freelance artist! Image copyright 2004.
