This is a 2ft X 2ft Encaustic painting on birch panel. Encaustic painting is done with molten beeswax, tree resin and pigment. It is an ancient form of painting dating back to ancient Greece and Egypt. It is a very versatile medium which can be used in a variety of ways. This is a painting, but I also do collage and image transfer as well. Famous artists such as Jasper Johns and Diego Rivera were accomplished encaustic artists. The Museum of Modern Art has example of the ancient Fayum paintings that have stood the test of time.
