Pawnee Chess Set

This Chess set was created using the Pahokatawa Indians symbol for the pawns. The Native American Myth is that Pahokatawa is a man who is killed and cut up by the enemy of the Pawnee. Coyotes and birds eat his flesh and other animals eat his brain. The sky beings want Pahokatawa to live so they tell the animals to put his flesh back. The animals return his body, but no one can find his brains. The sky beings place a soft , feather in Pahokatawa's skull in place of his brains and bring him back to life. After this, Pahokatawa tells the people that the enemy will attack. He tells of a large metorite shape like a turtle will fall on the plains. Later some older people remember these words and search for the meteorite. When they find it, they put it in the Morning Star Bundle. When Pawnee's move from Nebraska to Oklahoma he places the meteorite up on a western hill. Other symbols are used, such as the horse, and the sun. There is an interest in Native American Mythology that intrigues me.
