*Note: This photo appears in the Fall 2005 issue of Nature Photographer on pages 44 and 45.* The sun was setting into a clear western sky while a shelf of clouds continued to hang over Japan's second highest mountain, Kita Dake - 3,192 metres. I began shooting well before the sun slipped behind the horizon and I was ready when the clouds began to flare up in these beautiful colours.
