This early 20th Century railroad depot was part of the Idaho & Washington Northern Railroad line which extended from McGuire's Idaho and Metaline Falls, WA. It was short lived and became part of the Milwaukee Road Railroad line. The depot in Rathdrum, ID still stands and is now a residence for a couple who allowed me to tour the inside of their house as well as the outside. The front of the depot property is now a backyard for another residence. The back of the depot serves as the front of the house for those who drive down the street. A new room has been added to the (back) now front of the depot/house. The #31 locomotive in the painting was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1909. For this painting which includes a locomotive that is no longer in existence, I made the depot the center of attraction. The locomotive is secondary. I first contacted the Rathdrum Chamber of Commerce in 2018 and Andrea Maddalone replied to my email and forwarded my message to the owner of the depot/home, Kandi Johnson. Andrea also provided some photos from the Chamber office. Kandi Johnson responded immediately. My friend Doug and I toured the depot house in 2019. I thank Kandi and Boyd Johnson for graciously allowing me to tour their depot/home. Dorothy Dahlgren of the Museum of North Idaho also provided a photo of the depot. Adam Burns of AmericanRails.com gave me input on the #31 locomotive. Bob Storozuk, Museum Curator for the Milwaukee Road Historical Association located the proper locomotive that traveled the Idaho & Washington Northern Railroad line. Here is what he wrote about the locomotive. "Here is a brief history of No. 31. The IIW&N was taken over by the Chicago Milwaukee and St. Paul in 1916. No. 31 was renumbered to 3512 at that time. She was renumbered in 1926 to 3135 and finally to 32 in 1938. She was scrapped with that number in November of 1951". Leslie Rocha of Heritage Landology, and the Rathdrum Historical Society also sent photos and gave me some valuable information. Anne Marie of "Ask a Librarian" for the City of Boisie gave me some good advice also. The depot/home is located at 8047 W Post Street, Rathdrum, ID 83858
