A House Full of Memories

I walked around this part of Ankara about ten years ago, before the neighborhood underwent extensive renovations and many buildings were torn down. This old house, with its faded colors and its many building materials, has been demolished, though the memories it once held may still linger in the minds of those who once lived there. Haci Bayram Veli Cd., Ankara, Turkey Watercolor on Millford, 36x26 cm. 2018.

MINEKE : THERE IS ALWAYS A LITTLE COLOR AND BEAUTY LEFT IN THE RUINS. AS YOU I LOVE TO LOOK AT AND TAKE PICTURES OF THE OLD HOUSES DOOMED TO DEMOLITION AND IMAGINED THE LIFE OF THE FAMILIES WHO LIVED THERE. THANKS TO YOUR TALENT AS A PAINTER YOU IMMORTALIZE THE THINGS OF THE PAST THAT WERE SO BEAUTIFUL . THANK FOR THAT . MY PIC AND FAV

Artist Reply: I agree, Marie José. I have a fondness for old houses that have the patina of time. Even if the paint is peeling and the walls are crooked, there's beauty in that, too. Over the years, I've painted many buildings that are now no longer standing, and I like to think that they can be remembered this way. Thanks for your kind comment, pic and fav.

All the beautiful things we paint have offently disappeared. Stylish work !

Artist Reply: Very true, unfortunately. All the more reason to keep painting ahead of the bulldozers... Thanks, Ivo.
