Goldeneye

This picture came to me while walking in the centre of Oslo, during the construction of the new hotel just across the street of the Central Station. It was a warm summer day, with a lot of life in the central Oslo area. A balloon salesman had one of his best days, I believe. In front of him there was a line of 20 children or so, eagerly anticipating their new, shiny balloon in curious shapes. One of them, a small and quiet little boy, did not want any of the fancy spiderman balloons or similar, but he wanted this golden, simple and round one. As soon as he got it, he simply thanked his dad for the balloon which he proclaimed was the most beatiful thing he had ever seen. After walking 20 metres away from the salesman, he said he wanted to let the beatiful balloon go, so it could live it's life like it was supposed to. Then, he let go. His father was not amused, I believe the balloon was rather expensive, but he fell silent when he saw the pure joy in the boy's face as he simply stood there and watched the balloon float silently above the city. I managed to scramble my camera, which I luckily had brought with me that day, and managed to get this snapshot of the balloon floating over the construction machines above the city. There is a beauty in it I cannot explain, but I believe it comes from the sheer simplicity and ignorance usually shown to these items. The balloon that simply disappears, and the crane that both arrives and disappears equally sudden and without trace. The silent guardians of the city, and the backbone of it.
