Maggie May

Here is another painting that I made to give as a Christmas present. This is Maggie May, one of my parents' cats. She is beautiful and also has a sweet personality. I love her fluffy tail, which is why I chose to make it stand up rather than blend with her body. This may look a bit unnatural to some, but that's how I wanted to do it. Maggie is sitting on a red chair that my parents have had for a long time. I had to paint it from memory since I had no photo of it to look at. I did get pretty close, but I really should have been able to considering they've had it for 20 years! I didn't get the eyes quite straight. I need more practice with that. My parents have another cat named Pepper that is a Bengal. He has WILD markings and I don't think I have the skills to paint him. I would like for my first oil painting to be of Pepper but I will need some instruction from my b/f Michael, a much more skilled and experienced artist.

Fun painting. An appealing primitive quality to it. You need to learn how to edit out the background. It's not difficult. You can also even enhance the colors and darken the contrast. Ask one of your techie friends to show you how.
