The sluice of Kapelle-op-den-Bos

As a kid my grandpa took me there on a bike-trip, the first time a saw a sluice. I was amazed. It was a whole end on my little bike, ten kilometers up and ten kilometers down, but on the spot I enjoyed a lemonade and a bar of chocolate in a pub nearby. Of course I did not see the flatbottom boats, the watercolor shows the sluice around the thirties. Those boats are using obvious their waiting time to rig up their derrick again, after passing the low bridges of Brussels. In the sluice you can see a rather modern inland-ship for those days. (Kapelle-op-den-Bos means something like “Chapel on the woods “!?!?) Image size: 260 x 360 mm
