This is a "pencil" original
done of a middle-aged
Indian, "Split Sky. This is a
larger version of him. I
actually started my
"Western Collection" with
"Split Sky" in 2003.
The reference photo that I
used to draw from was
taken by F.W. Glaser a
little-known photographer
from Brockton,
Massachusetts in 1909.
.
The original is 13" x 17.75"
overall. It is drawn on
medium weight, hot press
Crescent Illustration Board.
It was drawn mainly with a
#8 Faber-Castell drawing
pencil. There is
"compressed charcoal" in
many of the darker areas.
The total time to complete
was approximately 33
hours. I left the sepia filter
off so what you are looking
at is what I see on my
drawing board.
