Late last night I watched West Side Story on television, a musical film released in 1961. Great music. A true Romeo and Juliet story, set in Manhattan, during the hot summer of 1957. Two teenage gangs, the Jets and the Sharks are taunting each other in the streets of New York. The Jets are a Polish-American group and the Sharks are of Puerto Rican descent. They fight frequently. Tony, a member of the Jets, falls in love with Maria, the Puerto Rican gang leader’s younger sister. Halfway through the film I fell asleep. I dreamt I had to take over the leading role from Natalie Wood because she got ill just before the shoots started.
