From Nov. to May/June the 6-mile gravel road to the Summit Lake Trailhead is covered in ice and deep snow. Usually we would make the attempt sometime in May and were mostly unsuccessful. This day we were lucky...June 29, 2006. Here is the same Twin Lake @Junction as the previous postings. We were rewarded with late spring beauty as the snows retreated and the lush greens take over. The avalanche lilies love the soggy ground and blanket the meadows and open places along the trail. They are the first wildflowers to come...and go. Hopefully I will be on my feet next year in June!! Thanks for visiting...next, the warmth of a summer day at the 1st Twin Lake.... :-)
