I am always amazed by the depth that Anneke Hut creates in her paintings, and by the number of techniques she uses to create that depth. Most of us -- ho hum -- have come to expect it, and we all will experience great symptoms of shock if ever she posts something flat or mediocre in any way. Indeed, if we merely look across the top two rows of this gallery, what enormous and exciting journeys our eyes travel within each view! Perhaps the clearest is when the lovely PRINCESS MEETS THE UNICORN. Two standard techniques easily succeed to make the water between them wide: first the descending size from the fore grounded princess to the much smaller-appearing unicorn across the water. The other technique, I notice is the use of light, especially in the wonderfully gradated color of the water from dark on the near bank to light on the other side Thus, the eye easily follows it back and forth across its little rivulet waves from the Princess in foreground to the light of the unicorn and falls across the way. From it’s white foaming at the bottom of the falls -- corresponding to the white of the unicorn and the white gown of the Princess, and serving to unite the three of them. Just another splendid work of art, Anneke -- without even mentioning beauty! Peace, etc., Bruce
