I agree so strongly with Dipanker Majumdar in the preceding comment! I think that cats and dogs are the hardest creatures to draw -- maybe because we are able to observe them so closely and intimately -- as trying to draw a portrait of a family member -- although I believe that for the most part it is far easier to draw a recognizable human than most any animal. But here is a common natural pose for domestic cats -- to be on guard even while resting, though probably just a final thorough survey of the surrounding territory a few minutes before sleeping. I suspect that most humans -- as I do -- find this to be a very difficult position, holding the head up un-braced against gravity that way even looks “unnatural.” But it is an even more difficult position to draw, believe me, or else just try it. But please make a bet with me first for as much money as you can afford to lose! So, one of the features that first strikes me about this painting is the difficulty of all the “cat” angles in it. Immediately next is that a semi-profile of most any head is the most difficult (after frontal and full-profile). So here, again, Anneke has succeeded in making a difficult drawing-challenge appear as simple to do and as natural to look at as a cat evidently must feel. Notice that I am not even mentioning the numerous other “cat-drawing challenges,” here done superbly: eyes, ears, paws, . . And would you please just take a look now at the painting of TWO cats, next on our left! Nice work (again), Anneke! Peace, etc., Bruce
