Charanga ( A trip to my past)

© 2009-2010 Armando Salas. ----- Photos taken last Summer at Cedeira, a beautiful seaworthy village near here. We were surprised by the sound of music and when I looked at this band... I met my past. The man having the white beard and the smiling one on the right side were friends from my childhood, whom I didn't see for 50 years. It was a wonderful surprise because they recognized me at first sight and this means I have not changed :-) Of course I was the first one to recognize them. ---------- Upper image: Charanga Band. Bottom image: Cedeira, a very clean and beautiful village.

La España de charanga y pander.....Armando, éstas honorables personas llevaran algo de vinillo o, "alpiste" o, van a cuerpo gentil? Impresionantes fotografias.

Excellent photographs and a lovely story

Artist Reply: Good night, Night Owl. Just in time :-)

Wonderful images, Armando!!! It's so pleasant to find these street bands and those we call filarmonicas!!! When I was a child, in my village I was gone with them, dancing, and listening that wonderful music...

Gorgeous town with that stunning blue sky. Narizotas has got the band playing in top form. Fantastic shots, Armando. I see the "orange" comments...Spanish Dutchmen????

Artist Reply: I don't think there are rancorous ladies here, Seth. OMG, for sure!:-))) They only remind of Tercios de Flandes- (Search wikipedia dot org/wiki/Tercio). Our troops were more than naughty boys in the past :-)

Aren't trips to the past fun! I am glad that my memory of the past is better than present. What a clean looking town and a big blue sky.

Artist Reply: I'll tell you about this town, Cedeira is a seaworthy place and their economy is based in the fishing. But it's the most clean place I know in this area. People enjoy to take care of their hometown and are proud of it. There is a beach named "La Arena" (The Sand). You can walk or dive :-) You'll only have to cross the street.

Both beautiful shots!! A lovely town with music in the streets...most enjoyable!!

Artist Reply: Yes, Mary. Local holidays there that sunny day. After that we went to a place near there, San Andrés de Teixido, a wonderful tucked away village in the mountains (http://artwanted.com/imageview.cfm?ID=649247). There are impressive cliffs there and also we could see wild horses living in freedom (http://artwanted.com/imageview.cfm?ID=720674).--- Few days ago we had a huge storm here although we hadn't severe damages and only three people died but it was terrible in France (50 dead people). We had the same kind of storm on January 2009. Its name is "ciclogénesis explosiva", something like a hurricane but it hasn't "eye", it's COMPACT and destructive. It EXPLODES suddenly. No rain, sometimes sunny day and suddenly... apocalypse! Wind can reach 240 Km/h.
Artist Reply: Forgot. That storm (January 2009) devastated those mountains and a lot of beautiful wild horses died :-( After I talk to my friends, we went to San Andrés and I almost cried by seeing THOUSANDS of broken trees. Almost 30 % of the woodland of Galicia (my region) was totally destroyed in only 5 hours.

Nelly van Nieuwenhuijzen 02 Mar 2010

orange, everywhere orange, they must have Dutch roots....(oh, just now I'm reading that Olga is telling you the same...) and of course you didn't change. ( i was recognized once in the waiting room of the dentist by a schoolboy from 55 years ago, and I did not recognize him, shaming myself)

Artist Reply: Hmmm... As you can see, all of them wear "pata negra" :-) (black trousers)

What a handy cart he has for his drums! :) I love the red flowers in the heart shaped bed and as Trixi said, that sky!! WOW!

Artist Reply: "Narizotas" pushes the handy cart with his stomach (full of beer, I suppose :-)

lovely shots Armando and what a wonderful surprise that must have been.

Nice story my friend... Isn't it great to meet people from your past! The band is wearing the right color shirts: ORANGE, the national color of the Netherlands. Love and Light, Moi
