La Juderia De Palma/The Jewish Quarter Of Palma

The Judería of Palma de Mallorca. Here Jews have lived since the Middle Ages and most of the people who live in that same quarter are the descendants of Jews that were made to convert to Catholicism. I have spoken with a few people of this neighborhood who despite not having practiced Judaism for many generations said "I'm Jewish. My family was Jewish before the conversion."

VERY BEAUTIFUL SHOT, CIBELES.

Artist Reply: Thank you! Your kind comments are always appreciated. I've been like six or seven times in this neighborhood, and it never ceases to amaze me how some things seldom change. In this neighborhood there is even an Arab bathhouse (that was also used by the Jews) and that dates back to the 11th century! Simply fascinating!

Beautifully evocative!

Artist Reply: Thank you! You know it's amazing how people in that neighborhood live in houses that date from the 1300's. They changed religion over the years, but they never changed residence.
