I live near Lake Superior, the largest fresh water lake in the world. It is often referred to as an inland sea. There are many picturesque areas along it's shoreline. It has numerous beautiful beaches with soft white sand. There are also many rugged rocky areas, worn smooth from pounding waves like in this scene. Lake Superior can change from calm into a storm very quickly, and it can be very dangerous for small craft, fishing trawlers, and even the huge freighters. This painting depicts one of those beautiful sunny days when it was calm and peaceful.
