Bull Moose of the Willows

Bull Moose in Rut season/Autumn feeding on willow plants. That white speck is a piece of willow on his muzzle. The Cow Moose is just a few yards away lying down in the willow. This is the most dangerous time to be near these animals as they are in a highly heighten state watching for other male moose who may try to mate with his female. I had heard later that day, this moose charged and stomp a person who did not heed the warnings of getting too close to this male and female. When photographing wildlife learn as much as you can about their behavior. This will help you to get better photos and to help keep you from hurting the animal or yourself. Never get close enough that you put the animal in fight or flight situation. If the animal seems or appears agitated. You are TOO CLOSE, Back off , use a longer lens. One Final Note, the background is hazy due to a slow burning lightening strike fire at the base of the Teton Mountains.

Real big one you've captured here Gary. Great close-up of the moose. Wonderful light. I met some last July near Anchorage when I was biking a bit around. They were half as big as this one, but came after me at the moment I came to close. Never new I gould bike that fast...lol...They are quiet dangerous indeed I noticed. Best regards Harry
