©Delores J. Knowles 2008 -- Egyptian Goose ( Alopochen aegyptiacus ) This small colorful goose is sometimes mistaken for a duck. Although Egyptian Geese originated in Africa where they are very common, it is now distributed worldwide. They have been in Great Britain and North America since the late 1700’s. They prefer almost any wetlands and feed primarily on grasses, seeds, plant stems, and occasional small worms and insects. They like to nest in holes in mature trees although they adapt to just about any situation, and they usally pair for life. Photographed in Lake County, Florida
