Anhinga in the Morning Sun

©Delores J. Knowles -- The morning sun caught the feathers on this male Anhinga just right as he was drying his wings after a swim in the pond. Unlike most other waterfowl, the Anhinga can swim completely submerged under the water as he searches for his next meal. Photographed in Lake County, Florida.

Super capture, Delores! I have viewed Anhinga's at our former residence in central eastern Oklahoma (near Ft Smith AR) .... they are very unusual in swimming with their back submerged in the water.

Artist Reply: Thanks for the kind comment on my Anhinga image. Yes, I have seen them dive in on one side of a pond and stay completely submerged till coming out the other side. Marvelous birds.

great shot. I love the way the texture in the wing matches that in the wood.
