Folks have fished at night for large catfish on Virginia's rivers since remembered history. On warm nights the light from campfires and lanterns can still be seen dancing across quiet waters chasing the sounds of voices that could not be heard in the daylight. The "Night Fisher" is one of the many that try their luck along the James River near Big Island as it wends its way on towards Richmond and the sea.

Wow what a fantastic soul . Your painting takes me back on a journey to the civil war times. I could see this man sitting in a dark room with only a fire to keep warm on his way underground to the north. He has so much character and his face wow - it just tells the story of his excitement and anxiousness. Excellent painting, excellent !!!!!Anonymous Guest 16 Oct 2007
