Not all paintings are meant to be charming and attractive. Throughout the history of art there have been paintings that have reflected the horrors and tragedies of humankind and challenged artists to portray these atrocities. In my daily meditations I reflect upon the previous night's dreams or terrors. I allow my mind to travel where my soul needs me to be. Where I have been summoned to is not always where I wish to go. What I have witnessed becomes this artist's responsibility to depict. It is my artist's duty, as it were. And that duty becomes Karma. A Karma that must be fulfilled. And for me to be remiss and not to paint what vision I observed would be an affront to my calling. Even though I wish I had not been summoned to illuminate the darkness that I beheld. This darkness that sometimes creeps into our shared humanity. But perhaps this artist's night terrors might help convey a dispatch from the other side reminding us that violence to the smallest of us is a violence to us all. visionary imagist "Joey"
