"Angel Oak Study", charcoal/pastel/pencil sketch on paper, (c)10/7/07. My husband and I went to Charleston this past weekend and were able to visit my favorite old tree "Angel Oak" Sunday afternoon. I sat in the shade for an hour or so and did this quick sketch. (Not my best work, but I thought I would share it anyway.) I have painted this tree before (see my online portfolio), but this is the opposite side. This side of the tree is not quite as symmetrical as the other, due to the fact that it sustained heavy damage during Hurricane Hugo years ago. Angel Oak has since rebounded, however, and is nothing less than a magnificent natural wonder to behold. For some impressive stats on this tree, you can visit www.angeloaktree.org. I encourage you all to visit it if you are ever in the Charleston, SC area. Thanks for looking.
