red bellied woodpecker

my 1st successful full colour scratchboard. quite happy with it. original is on an 11x14 sheet. this one only took me 2 days to do which absolutely amazed me. i kinda' got on a roll. my 1st attempt was a cardinal and if it weren't for the fact that it's something i can look back on and see what not to do i'd scrap it.this one is a keeper.the bird and tree stump are coloured.i put this up on the critique board and it was suggested that i add more shadow under the bird and make the distinction at the shoulder and head less crisp. iv'e done that and added some more colour to the belly and will up-load the image shortly. the background is not blue as it appears here but white.

WOW! AWESOME! Great artwork Shelia! I love the detail and color in your artwork! Adam & Sheena

Artist Reply: thanks for your feedback. it was a big risk 'cause i'd essentially finished it so i could have ruined the entire piece if i botched it by adding colour to it but i figured i had to jump off the deep end eventually and all's well that ends well.

Artist Reply: thanks karen. it felt really good to break out of the b/w box. don't know that i'll make a habit of it but change is ggod once in a while.
