Alpha Omega

IN THE BEGINNING WAS THE WORD AND THE WORD WAS GOD. My art has taken me to many different places but the places most rewarding are those that are sacred. I have been very blessed to have my art in many different places of worship. Life is, by it's very nature impermanent but ART ENDURES. The painting that is sacred becomes eternal and gives it's author a taste of immortality. It is the pursuit of the spiritual, not the material, that is the most rewarding. Life can be but a shadow play, it can become a distraction when one only pursues ownership, title and fame. We can become, to some extent, what our possession's make us to be. But the soul is aware of the Source of all Sources, the alpha and the omega. This Source is available to all. It is abundant and unfettered and freely given to all that open their hearts to It's bounty. This Source is like a rose. The rose's fragrance does not chose who will smell it's perfume. Or like a tree. A tree does not tell who may seek it's shade and who may not. No, this source is available to all. It begins with the illumination, the epiphany, that by possessing nothing we possess everything. visionary imagist "Joey"

In earlier times, in Western Europe, art was only a way for men to worship God (and, sometimes more deities like in other parts of the world). Art was sacred. The human way to imagine what God is and was, and gives him a form, an appearance that men can look at. That was and, still, is one of the most important drives and purposes of creating Art. To reflect the divine and, on a humble human level, becomes a part of it. Your beautiful painting reminds me of a painting of the Christ in a famous Byzantine church in Ravenna. There I saw who God really was. The Creator, the Triomphator, the Alpha and the Omega, as you has mentioned in your wonderful essay. Thanks Yoey, for sharing this.

Artist Reply: Gabrielle: Your words have moved me and made me reflect upon my responsibilities of being an artist. I did attempt to capture the Byzantine with this piece. I have in the past helped to restore the art on the altar of churches. I wish I could express in words my deep appreciation for your insights. Thank you!!

Fabulous narrative to go along with this piece Joey. The material world fails tremendously to reach the heart and soul where true comfort and love comes from. The spiritual side of life has no bounderies, where as the material is limited... which in turn sends us down that wrong path. Good message and good art!

Artist Reply: Mark: Your comments are very insightful and profound. It is through art that i can explore those messages that you so eloquently described. I am glad that you enjoy your visit to my art world. Stop back again anytime!

Tahnja Wolter 26 Aug 2007

oh my Jesus, how my thoughts have increasingly sought thy comfort and love, how thy tears that you shed for the state of the world have grieved my heart, how your love has encased my soul and inflamed my heart. Without you we are nothing, without you we cannot know true love, without you there is no end to pain. May you grace more of your servants to share your love in the world for it is so lacking in a world that shares little love

Artist Reply: Tahnja: Your words have moved me. I am glad that you enjoyed my art and my humble attempt. Thank you!!

spiritual Truth is the only thing we need! A beautiful painting Joey! Why we people see god as a man is for me always been a riddle!

Artist Reply: Annette: Thank you for sharing with me. I, too, find the female aspect very inviting and have painted Her form too. I'm not sure why most western art reveals god in the masculine. In the east it is quite different. I find the Bhagavad Gita to be one of my favorite reads along with the Tao Te Ching amongst many others too. I was never able to find that book that book that you suggested, but I keep trying. Thanks for stopping back into my little gallery. I hope all is well!

Ron Atkin 25 Aug 2007

Im sure the people that visit the churches where your paintings hang; appreciate your rendition of the godhead (Alpha Omega) as being masculine. However as above so below, as below so above. WHAT ABOUT THE FEMALE HALF of the godhead? Joey. I fully appreciate artists need to live. At the moment I am seeking a few million pounds to open a Soulscape House. A centre where we can teach/guide people to discover that God is WITHIN everyone in the form of ETERNAL LOVE energy. With no domination by ANY religion. If the Pope were to offer me 10 million pounds to paint the Alpha Omega as solely masculine, I wouldnt do it, in spite of the urgent need for these funds.

Artist Reply: Ron: Thanks for your insightful comments. I have done many other paintings which have included different aspects of the godhead. I'll be posting some soon. I have never sought payment for any paintings that I do for any temple or church. It's my way of putting back into the cosmos what has been given to me freely. I do so appreciate your insights and good luck on your centre. I hope that you are successful in all of your endeavors. Stop back anytime.

Outstanding Work, Joey!

Artist Reply: Chris: all the paintings that I have done for any church or temple I have done for free. It's my way of putting back into the universe what I have been so freely given. Thanks for your comments and friendship.

Janet Gioffre Harrington 24 Aug 2007

Joey, this is a great piece of artwork, and the sentiment attached, such BEAUTIFUL prose~ art in itself!!

Artist Reply: Janet: Thanks for the wonderful comment. I have been trying to compile my words in such a way to present them in book form. I thank you again for commenting upon my attempts. Stop back anytime!

Anneke Hut 24 Aug 2007

It's remarkable that the word possession contains all letters to make the word poison. Earthly possessions are poison for the soul. They stop the ability to enjoy all that is given to us just out of love and to be thankful.

Artist Reply: Anneke: Yes, the hoarding of private possessions begins the downward slope into the abyss of materialism. In a world of private opulence there is so much public squalor. Let us hope for a better tomorrow. Thanks for sharing with me.

katja cuikova 24 Aug 2007

excellent done!

Artist Reply: Katja: thank you for sharing with me your input. It is always appreciated and looked forward to.

Laurie Rawdon 24 Aug 2007

This is so very beautiful Joey...both your words and your painting, so clearly coming from your heart.

Tina Diemer 24 Aug 2007

In search for spiritual truth......not the material world. WONDERFUL message!

Artist Reply: Tina: Indeed the spiritual rather than the material is essence of being. No church, building or edifice is necessary. I find great spiritual comfort in our Mother nature. And that is free for the taking. Thank you for your insightful comments.
