La Folia

30x40 inches oil on canvas. signed. unframed. Kreisler introduced Rachmaninoff to the tune 'La Folia', which he believed to be by Corelli, but which is of more ancient Portuguese origin. During the summer of 1931 Rachmaninoff composed the 'Variations on a Theme of Corelli'. This painting is done in summer 2007 during my daughter's study of this wonderful piano solo.
