American Express

Rework of an old shot for JPG Magazine's 'American' theme. If you like this one please vote for this shot @ jpgmag.com/photos/112000 This patriot was coming out of Bleeker St records in NYC. Which is the stronger symbol of America - the people who walk the streets in poverty or the mighty corporate dollar?

Great image. I like the way you have worked it. If it wasn't titled American Express I would say get rid of the American Express Sign. Very nice work.

An amazing photo. It is difficult to take portraits, but you have a gift of capturing the essence of what you photograph with great poignancy and emotional depth. What a powerful statement to deflate the emptiness of corporate life in contrast to the importance of helping the elderly, especially those who walk the streets as true patriots making fools of those who are morally corrupt. I congradulate your efforts to help people become more aware of the loss of virtue and true morality in this country where so many people are emotionally bankrupt no matter how much money they have.

Artist Reply: Julie - thank you for your kind words. I want my work to be all about people and emotion but all too often I lack confidence in my portraiture (hence so many still life, architecture and macro shots). Its the great support that I get from you and others like you that will help me move on in the direction I desire. The US is by no means alone in its growing emotional bankruptcy. Here in the UK we seem embarrassed by our elderly and if you don't have the money to secure a place in overpriced 'Shady Pines' developments then you are literally left out in the cold. We all need to take a hard look at what we consider to be virtue and true morality - promoting it where ever possible. Thanks again, P.
