Bruce Combs 25 Sep 2010

Amazing how much emotion is presented here merely in the body language and the simple (four-letter) pointing title! We see no face no face at all, and the colors and designs surrounding the poor girl contrast with their pleasant harmony, including her beautiful dress. I admire this painting very much, and I definitely appreciate the amount of careful work on the many details of pillow, couch, and the discarded top garment thrown across the top of the couch. I appreciate, too, the handling of colors in the five horizontal background rectangles. Thoughtful touch, the rust(?) color (so daringly close to her hair (even it's sunburned?) separating her lavender gown from the darker lavender wall. It is such a simple painting on first sight; so full of universal emotion and artistry to be found not long after! Thank you again, Anneke. Peace, etc., Bruce

Artist Reply: It was the first time that I tried to paint a couch with a floral pattern on it, also using a minimum of colours, just for fun and I did have fun making this. The 'garment' represents a 'goodbye' letter.:) Dear Bruce, I'm glad that you like this modest painting, thank you for your sweet words on it.:)

It may be due to the design of the sofa or to the colours used but this painting has a modern look that I like very much. I'd be curious to know what was your state of mind when you painted this. The picture description gives some hints but remains however quite mysterious...
