Wood by the sea

My first "en plein air" work of 2007! It was such a warm day that i went to the sea with my sketch block. The sketch is the one in sanguine you can see in zoomed up version. Later at home i used it for this pastel work. Somehow i still like the sketch better though :) Conte pastels on green Canson MiTenintes paper. About 25*35 cm.

Lovely pictures both! I prefer the sketch too... there's better light, it has such a nice feeling of depth - and it has a lovely spring/summer day atmosphere!

I agree with Mayme, I like both but the sketch has a certain vitality not quite captured in the studio version. Get out there with your pastels!!! Looks like 2007 is going to be a good one for you!

both are beautiful........the sketch version is free, grab those pastels and take them to the beach and see what you come up with.........that would be a ton of fun.............

They are both very nice...but I do think I prefer the sketch version too because it's more "alive"!! :D

Nice job on this one Cristina!! I love both versions of the image, with a leaning toward the sketch due to the tones!! Excellent presentation!! Your day at the beach paid off!!! ~S

Nice depth among the trees Cristina, and I love the shape of the of the main subject. My favourite is the sepia toned version, but the coloured one looks good also.
