I have been slowly but surely trying to
scan and catalog most of my older
artwork. This is a piece that I did for
an article in the Pennsylvania Game
News Magazine back in 1996. The
story was written by writer named Joe
Perry. The story was about a pistol
that his father had made from the Colt
factory and passed it down to Joe. His
father had passed away many years
before. Joe wanted to do something to
remember his father by. He decided to
take the pistol on a deer hunt. The
story was titled "Requiem for a
Peacemaker." "Peacemaker" was what
the famous pistol was called back in
the late 1800s. To give you a hint,
shooting a deer with a pistol is a feat
in itself, let alone that it is a pistol that
is not a very powerful piece. He did
not get the buck but he saw it and Joe
realized that the "hunt" meant more
than the "kill."
Joe did take the old Colt to have it
appraised and was told that the
"custom made," custom engraved"
piece was worth well over $10,000!
What an honor to have the privilege to
illustrate this fine work of art!
The original measures 6" x 9' on a gray textured
charcoal board and was render in pencil with a
white pencil used for the highlights.
