Soldier's Expression

This watercolor study was based on a photograph of my husband while on patrol in Afghanistan. Him looking out the window on 'high alert' provoked an amazing expression I tried to capture.

Intense pesonality here! I wonder what he's been through, and what his specific thoughts are. You've depicted such great personality in your work.

Wonderful compositin and colors! Great detail in a difficult (for me andyway!) medium.

Artist Reply: Hi, Trish! Wow--what a compliment! :) I find watercolor incredibly difficult--ALWAYS! :) Maybe because you have to paint 'backwards' (from light to dark)? A great challange! Hope your day goes great! -Kerra

This is such a moving art work. Beautiful colour tones, you should be proud.

Artist Reply: Aileen--thank you so much for your very detailed comment. I am very proud about the guy--would have changed a few things if able to 'redo' in the painting. :) Hope your day goes great! -Kerra

Marty Yokawonis 04 Jan 2007

very good Kerra. I also use drawing and watercolor. Not every piece but most.

Jerrie Glasper 03 Jan 2007

KERRA, I JUST HAVE TO TELL YOU THAT THIS IS A REALLY FINE PORTRAIT. I LOVE THE DEPTH THAT YOU WERE ABLE TO ACHIEVE WITH WATERCOLORS AND YOU DIDN'T OVERWORK IT, AS I SOMETIMES DO WITH WATERCOLORS. GREAT JOB!

Gayle Taylor 02 Jan 2007

Nicely done! Your technique is great, keep up the good work!

David Holcombe 31 Dec 2006

This is a very thoughtful and emotive portrait. The face is off center which already creates some sense of tension. You create lots of feeling with just a few strokes. Very nice.

Elizabeth Stringer 29 Dec 2006

A very effective portrait. I like the technique you have used here

Kirsten Talmage 26 Dec 2006

This really speaks to me somehow -- the technique of relative precision around the face and much looser wash elsewhere -- the facial of focus tempered by hope --- I don't know, but this has a lot in it, for all that it's a study.

Delia Pacheco 26 Dec 2006

The wonder of what he's "seeing" and "feeling" through his eyes!!!!!
