Pastel Orange roses

This is a digital painting I did using a Wacom tablet and pen and Painter IX. software. I use a electronic cavas, chose the medium I want, colors, brush sizes, blend, using a wireless pen. I have to choose all the setings, etc. in order to draw/paint every stroke in a digital work such as this one. It's as if I were using real pastels in my hand, blending them, but wihout the mess and clean up. Also, once done, I can't smear it or have to seal it. This is not a phot manipulation. THere are programs that you can use to click and get a manipulated artistic effec such a spastels. It is very limited and doesn't give you the choices as doing it yourself. Whenever I do use effects, manipultations, I post it so not to confuse how I worked. I enjoy doing both types of work, but perfer to do as much or all the work myself. With software souch as Corel's Painter IX.5, you can do the work like you would traditionally. You can also mix mediums that you could not with real mediums, and get some wonderful blending, textures, and results. I love that if I goof up a part of a digital work, I can fix it and not chuck out a work that I goofed up. I've clumbsy hands ofen due to a car accident, so love that I can have the skills I used to. I also love that I am not covered with spills of paints. God gave me back my art, and led me to new ways to use it, and increase my skills. I will in the future take some time to do real canvas works again, though they will take me much longer. Meanwhile, I love digital art and all to I continue to learn to do with it.

I love what you have done with all your roses. This one just feels nice. Is there a blue rose? A real blue rose?

Artist Reply: Thank you Minerva, so far rose breeders have not been able o produce a real blue rose. Other than dying one after it's cut or tinting with a spray, that's the close to one you can get. They are grafting other dna of plants to try to get one developed. The closest I've see are the purple roses, which can be light lavendar to almost a black rose. Whoever does get the first real blue rose will get a lot money it. There are a lot of growers ring to do it. I love all the colors and varitie of roses there are,and would love to see a rainblow rose personally. That would impress me, and would be stunning.

wonderfully done, just beautiful!

Artist Reply: Thanks so much Leah! I love the look of pastels and chalks. I have been trying to get a good mix and paper texture with the software I use to look more realistic of the style I want.

I've a tablet too but I don't know how to use it:-))) and I continue to work with mouse. I'm jealous. Splendid work, Terry!

Artist Reply: Thanks Armand. What type of software do you have to use your Wacom? That can make a big difference in learning to use it. There are lots of free on-line tutorials as well on how to use it. Practice helps and experimenting. I got the best results when I found good software that does what I want to do. You can try software usually for 30 day downloads from many companies on line, such as Corel.

Terry, excellent painting. That Wacom tablet is my best friend. Lovely work. Have yourself an excellent weekend. My mother and sister are driving from Florida to see me. So we are having Thanks-mas. Love you and yours. Michael

Artist Reply: Thanks Miguel! Enjoy your Thank-mas! I know it will be wonderful! I do love my wacom tablet! There are some new, very expesive art electronics coming out, so won't be trading in this tablet for it. Did get a second tablet for my laptop to go with me, but haven't messed with it yet.

You are an amazing with your digital art!!

Artist Reply: Thank you Carliss! I am humble, and stilla newie at art. I wasted so many years from being embarrassed that my art was not done well, or that it drew too much attention to me. I used to give away everything I made so not to have it in the house, I'd be too critical of it. Sigh, some of us take longer than others to get comfortable with ther art skills. I have so much to catch up on!

GREAT TREATMENT, TERRY

I totally agree with Nelly!! Great job Terry! (great text! and wishing you luck with picking up the canvas again!!)

Artist Reply: Thank you Olga! I am stubborn and while it will be harder to do canvas, I will work at it. I'll still work mostly with computer art, but want to get some canvas done. I've figured out some ways to work around a canvas so not to have to hold up my arms so long. I'll make a spinning table top to move it around flat, and work at it. I'm getting a good chair as well to give me support. Lots of rags and towels for cleanup.

Love this one Terry - I'm amazed at you're skill with the Wacom Tablet and computer programmes - me well I can only just manage to upload a photo to this site - you are definetly gifted. Blessings Zoe

Artist Reply: Thank you Zoe! I am stubborn and practice so to learn how to do something if I want to learn something. I am broadening my subjects to challenge myself, I s love to do that. I don't ever want to become bored with my work, or to stagnate. I have been expeimenting to learn more and enjoy when I manage to do it.

Nelly van Nieuwenhuijzen 02 Dec 2006
