Tis the Season.....

In late Sept. and early Oct. the mushrooms seem to be everywhere, especially at around 3500 ft. On this day, we were about 2 mi. into the trail to Owyhigh Lakes and my knee started to really bother me. So instead of pushing thru the pain, we decided to take it easy and enjoy the trail. We had noticed the mushrooms on the way up and thought we would see how many varieties we could find. I know nothing about what kind any of them are...you may be able to help with that. I was just totally amazed at how many varieties we found on just one hike. So welcome to this series I'd like to call the "Fungi Hike". :) Thanks so much for visiting!!!

Keep up these photos, Mary. They are very, very good! I will help you with identity whenever I can. The top one appears to be a 'jelly cap' shroom, and is not edible. The bottom ones may be Psilosybes, which are hallucinogenic, but not poisonous. Nevertheless, I would avoid both of these! I love your photos of shrooms almost as much as your mountain shots, dear lady...but those 2 items have always been favorites of mine.

The bottom image makes me think that the mushrooms are trying to blend in with the clover because of their shape. Talk about peer pressure! :) I like how the upper one seems inversed in shape... cup-like. this series is really cool.

Like a beautiful painting!

Yes, it was surely the year of the mushroom here, too. The top one I believe is a Boletus. I saw them the size of a dinner plate this summer. I love the compositions you have chosen here. You have really captured that famous Washington woods look.
