Josephine Baker had lived in France for many years, when WWII began to erupt. She was active in the "war effor," and entertained the American troops as well as other allied military services. It has been said that she may have even served in a "Mata Hari styled" intelligence post, at one time for her chosen position in aid to the government.

Whoever owns what, says what, thinks what, can just know "you did a fine image of a Very Fine Woman of Colour" that operated in overseas when we couldn't operate with many IMAGES here...keep 'em commin

Artist Reply: Coming through loud and clear, Elf! Thanks for your frank words on this particular home grown, but unappreciated, great talent, and human being!

Carliss, did you need to get permission from CMG Worldwide (they own all copyright to Josephine's name, likeness, voice, signature, etc) to create this piece? I was wondering out of curiosity--thanks!

Artist Reply: My understanding is that fan art can not be sold from here. Therefore, I have not sold any. Paricularly since I do not know who owns copyrights. If it is checked "for sale" it is simply because I did not omit the check for sale, and do not know hot to reverse it.

Carliss - this is extraordinary work! You captured Ms. Baker with such a great likeness and realisim, and you also captured her pride in this excellent pencil rendition of her. She still is a woman I greatly admire, I'm so glad you portrayed her with so much grace, beauty, and dignity. I actually have one of her records, and like to listen to her singing her sweet french songs. Thank you for also commenting on my photo of my cat! Much appreicated. Have a gorgeous day.

Artist Reply: Wow, Jane! Thank you so very much! I have received a lot of great responses for doing Josephinek, and I want to let you know I appreciate your words so much!!
