New River Plain

Along the bend of a slow, placid river, wonders abound, raining color... (Artwork destroyed as a result of the attack on the World Trade Center, 2001)

Oh boy Michael that is a beautiful pastel and I love pastels too but find landscapes difficult! Thanks for this gorgeous drawing.

Artist Reply: Thank you, Maureen. You have some really good portraits on your pages here at AW! Funny, I've always found portraits much harder to do than landscapes... I guess that's one of the reasons why art is so variable!

Beautiful! Can really get the sense of the river flowing. wonderful contrasts-

Artist Reply: Thanks, Kathryn. I felt one of the best aspects of this one was the "movement" of the river (or the illusion of that)--and you picked right up on that. A marvelous perception you have!

A beautiful pastel! As I think all of your works are. I too feel sad to read here how it was lost. I can only hope it was only the painting you lost! Many wonderful qualities, sensitive, deep mood, stunning colour, evocative, uplifting, inspiring. Great talent!

Artist Reply: Thank you so much! I guess with all such things, when something is lost, something else is gained in the process (at some level). That's true for me in this case... I don't know if others who suffered much greater losses (their lives!--or a loved one!) would be able to feel that way, however. I hope so... I got off easy, believe me. Thanks for your glowing comments here. You sound like a kind, and very insightful person.

Stunning as usual, Michael. I love the softness of the pastels in this piece. Makes it soft and moody. I tried my first landscape! It is up on my site...Heartland II.

Artist Reply: Thanks so much, Arlene.... I do love the soft pastels... And congratulations on "landscaping." I'll go take a look.
