Subalpine Color at Eunice Lake

The flowers are becoming more numerous as the summer rolls along. Most of the early flowers are gone, although we did see a few avalanche lilies on this hike. Being on vacation for a week caused me to miss the tiger lilies...they were there but past their beauty...darn!! The first photo is beargrass, I almost missed them as well. This is one of my favorite because of the clusters of tiny flowers that make up the dense 6 in. clump. Eventually this plant can grow to the height of 6 ft...a favorite treat for deer and elk. The second shot is of Rosy Spirea, a shrub that can be up to 3 ft. tall. Again, each ball of color is made up of tiny individual flowers. The bees were very busy flying from one pink ball to another.
