20" x 30" oil on stretched canvas; unframed; copyright 2003 by M. L. Wilson. Small bands of wild horses still roam sparsely- populated areas of eastern Oregon. Known as "Kiger Mustangs", geneticists have proven them to descend from native Spanish horses and Barb mounts of 16th century Spanish explorers. US government BLM-sanctioned roundups auction off herd members to keep populations healthy and controled. Horse lovers value Kiger Mustangs for their suitability in pleasure, trail, endurance, and performance riding and driving. In their free-roaming state they embody the heritage of the American West. Long may they run!

The scenery is gorgeous! I almost wish the rearing stallion's head was turned rather than facing out, but great job overall.Lynn Hentze 19 Jun 2005
