The lyrics of an old Pat Boone song "a white sport coat and a pink carnation; I'm all dressed up for the dance..."


This is a photo of my youth...a memory trace to the past. It has been said when your memories are more numerous than your dreams-- then your life is over...perhaps that is why I am taking this trip down memory lane...perhaps it is a milestone marker between what was and what is to come....


Perhaps you think this is another artist in the throes of vainglory and vanity...Perhaps I am doing this series of self-portraits to recall a time when all one worried about was what they were going to wear on their Saturday night date...and there were no thoughts of death and mortality...and especially no thoughts of a son that is dieing of cancer...so perhaps this is an excape into the past when eternity was strung out before me like the endless stars in the sky...and I did not have to ponder the thought of buying new grave clothes...perhaps...

Excellent image, Elton! My thoughts are with you and your son! I believe looking to our past is an excellent thing to do from time to time. You have made me really think about self-portraits as well. Perhaps we'll see many of the AW artists beginning to put self-portraits up in the future.....Hmmm.... :)

this is a wondeful photo to remember your youth...i read your text..And...i think,its very important especcially for artists to do self portrait...Since i'm in AW,I found myself thinking alot more of my self portrait...,i think..its alot the atmosphere of this place,BUT..Also...the understanding that as artists we have the tools in our minds and hands to work on our portrait...and that we must think of what will be left from us after we shall one day left this world...thanks for sharing this photo...and your text.ONLY THE BEST FOR YOU.
