Tigers...the Larges of All Cats....

Tigers: Recognized throughout the world for its ferocity and unmistakable beauty, the tiger faces an uncertain future. Due to increases in both natural and human threats, the wild tiger population suffered major losses during the 20th century and has become one of our most endangered species. By the 1950s, tigers living around the Caspian Sea were extinct; between 1937 and 1972 the population of tigers that once inhabited the islands of Bali and Java disappeared; the South China tiger, with at best 20 to 30 individuals, is nearly extinct in the wild. The tiger, largest of all cats, is one of the most charismatic and evocative species on Earth; it is also one of the most threatened. Only 6,000 or so remain in the wild, most in isolated pockets spread across increasingly fragmented forests stretching from India to south-eastern China and from the Russian Far East to Sumatra, Indonesia. Tigers have dens in caves, tree hollows and dense vegetation. They are mostly nocturnal but in the northern part of its range, the Siberian subspecies may also be active during the day at winter-time. Using their sight and hearing rather than smell, the tiger stalks its prey and once it has reached close proximity, attacks from the side or rear and kills by a bite to the neck or the back of the head. Size Body length is 140-280 cm and tail length is 60 to 95 cm.

WONDERFUL SHOT...GLORIOUS BEING...AND VERY INFORMATIVE WRITE UP...BRAVO!!! DID YOU KNOW THAT IN SOME PLACES IN CHINA THEY WERE SELLING A TIGERS PENIS AND GENITALIA FOR SOUP AT 500 DOLLARS A BOWL TO MEN IN SHOPS BECAUSE THEY THOUGHT IT WOULD ENHANCE SEXUAL PROWESS...WHAT A HATEFUL THING TO DO, IN MY MIND, I CAN NOT CONCEIVE OF SUCH ATROCITY. DESPECABLE IGNORANT SELFISH ACTS SUCH AS THESE MAKE ME GASP IN HORROR SOMETIMES AT THE STATE OF MY OWN HUMANESS. THANK YOU FOR THE INFORMATION...I HAVE KNOWN OF THREAT TO TIGERS FOR MANY YEARS AND THE WAY THAT THEY HAVE BEEN SLUTTERED FOR MANY OF THEIR BODY PARTS...I KNOW THEY ARE A PREDATOR TOO BUT DO NOT SEE THE REAL GAIN WE AS A RACE HAVE MADE FROM KILLING THEM OFF TO NEAR EXTINCTION...GOD BLESS MY GREAT SISTER FOR UPHOLDING THEIR SPIRIT...YOU KNOW I SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS MATTER. SINCERELY CB
