Just can't make it another inch in this heat...

~ ~ NO SQUIRRELS WERE HARMED DURING THE TAKING OF THIS PHOTO, NOR DURING THIS HEAT WAVE ~ ~ This particular squirrel was just hopping and jumping across the wall just seconds before he abruptly stopped and laid out flat as a pancake! Actually, this is a normal routine for the resident squirrels, we just haven't figured out if it's to cool down, or just to antagonize our dogs during these +100 degree days!!

What a moment!! the heat can knock you flat, I know. Great catch of a real moment, Laurie! I wanted to stop in to say I love you and wish you a very Blessed Christmas! I am always thinking of you and really would love to make my way to the coast soon. My Sister, Mary Lou Cupp also lives there with her family. I have been trying to save money to come and visit. If you have the time I bet she would be thrilled to have you look at her art too. Mary joined this site a few months back. You are ever in my heart, Sister! CB

haha - thats very funny Laurie - I've never seen that before.

Artist Reply: Thanks Joe! You would not have believed just seconds before he plopped down like this he was running and jumping across the top of the wall like a little kid! We have to be careful coming home, we live at the end of a cul-de-sac and the entire street has a thick canopy of trees, so the squirrles will plop down like this all over the street in the shade to cool down, I'm never sure if they are dead or alive...LOL It's quite a challenge dodging them, you never know which way they will run, luckly I have never had a fatality in the 7 years we've lived here, keep your fingers crossed for me, it's been soooo hot, yesterday was 119, and today looks like the same!!

LOLOL...Great Capture!! I believe it is how they cool down..last year at the Grand Canyon in 95+ they were doing the same... A few times I looked over the edge and there would be one just laying out overlooking the whole canyon...it was quite funny...I don't know if I got a shot of that or not..i'll have to go look..
