In Hollywood they have the red carpet,in Kenya where I grew up, Matatus(Taxis) were my celebrities. My siblings and I would stand roadside in amazement as these boldly painted, blaring music minibuses ride by. We would claim "that's mine" and only commute the hippest one. That meant the conductor had to have a character thats drew customers, the music was upto date and the looks, both outside and inside outdo the others. Trust me,it gets REALLY COMPETITIVE. Before owning a car, riding in style is still available for all. That's a taste of Kenyan culture.
