The Gray Jay

I'm sticking with the critter theme for a little longer. The gray jay (aka camp robber)is always present at destinations and resting places looking for hand outs. I mean this liturally because they will land in your hand, snoop in your pack and steal pieces of your sandwich off your picnic table. They are beautiful birds and we always enjoy watching them. This guy followed us for the last 1/2 mi. to Crystal Lakes before we stopped for lunch. Persistant!! The second shot(same day)is at the 1st lake...it's another .7 mi. to the 2nd lake that is larger. These waterfowl (don't know what they are) were entertaining as well. We were timing their dives and most were between 1 min. and 1 min. 15 sec. It was amazing to believe they could hold their breathe that long, there must have been air pockets under the ice. But even more amazing is the fact that that water is VERY COLD!!
