Cement Lament

Cement Lament

"Cement Lament" is a very large (24x36x1.5" deep) colorful abstract piece of artwork. It has a lot of bright colors, mostly squares, rectangles and geometric patterns, all interacting with each other to create this whimsical piece of art.

The whites and slate grayish blue areas reminded me of concrete or cement, hence the title.

Some of the colors I used are: chocolate brown, white, slate blue, baby blue mixed with darker blue, yellow (with a burnt sienna glaze on top), red (with a light green, almost white glaze on top), a light shade of seafoam green, and tan. The outlines used to separate the squares is a chocolate brown color, not black.

The painting continues onto the sides of the deep 1.5" canvas, making it look like these are 3D "chunks" of bricks or blocks fitted together. Although I believe this is a very modern design, it would definitely make a powerfully bold art statement in ANY decor!

I purposely created the shapes without any regard to being "perfectly straight"; the deep brown outlines, and shapes, were NOT created with a ruler - in my opinion, this gives the piece a real organic, and handmade, almost "quilt-like" look and feel. This piece was most definitely NOT made by a machine!

There is also a lot of texture in this piece.

I signed it on the back and it can be hung either horizontally or vertically; whichever the owner prefers or as wall space dictates.
