Downstream

In all the rivers of our lives, this one comes back to haunt me, time and again, with its lazy flow, swimming in it from here to the sea--or in its annual flooding, which is also a part of its domain, its prerogative, in unruly moods... © 2001, Michael Cook. Private collection, California (This was actually a gift to the person I credit most for allowing me to "pass through" 9/11, unscathed.) Blessings....

This is absolutely gorgeous! Great color contrast and handling of water... cant believe you did that in pastels :)

Artist Reply: Thank you Cristina (and everyone) for your great comments. It is indeed pastel. I find it to be a good medium for such subjects. Like watercolor, I think it is too often used weakly and timidly by beginning artists especially--but it can also be strong, with rich color and high contrasts.
